Flat Laurel Creek Loop

  • Distance: 6.0 Miles
  • Elevation Gain: 1102 ft.
  • Difficulty: Moderate

This is a hike we do often.  It was a nice day and not including the masses of people standing on the road and in the parking lots, we passed 56 people and 8 dogs.  That is more than usual.  I think everyone really wants out of their houses.

After 2 years of rain, the trail has washed and become very rooty.  And, I mean lots and lots of roots on top of the trail.  It is hard on my weak ankles.  But, besides that, it isn’t a hard hike.

We parked on the Blue Ridge Parkway where the Art Loeb crosses and hiked up the Art Loeb to the intersection of the Mountains to the Sea trail.  We turned right and when we got to Black Mtn Rd, we walked the road to the Sam’s Knob Trail until it intersected the Flat Laurel Creek Trail where we turned left.  We turned right on Little Sam Trail until it intersected back at the Mountains to the Sea trail where we turned left to complete our loop and go back down the Art Loeb.
